history
The discovery of a barrow from the Hallstatt period with a chariot burial in the fire forest indicates an early settlement of the municipality. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1257 under the name Diemarswile . The names Ditmarswile (1275), Dyemerswil (1299) and Diemerswile (1302) appeared later . The place name goes back to the Old High German personal name Dietmar and therefore means Dietmar's homestead .
Since the Middle Ages, Diemerswil has been under the lordship of the Counts of Kyburg . In the 13th century the manorial power came to the Johanniterkommende Münchenbuchsee . Since 1406, sovereignty over the area was incumbent on the city of Bern . After the Commandery had been secularized in 1528, Diemerswil was assigned to the Landvogtei Münchenbuchsee in the Zollikofen Regional Court .
After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), the village belonged to the Zollikofen district during the Helvetic Republic and from 1803 to the Fraubrunnen Oberamt, which received the status of an official district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831. At the community level, there is now a close cooperation with the neighboring Münchenbuchsee.
The Campagne Diemerswil (so-called castle), originally from the 18th century, was destroyed in 1969.
coat of arms
Blazon : “ Divided by red, with a continuous silver cross, and by silver with a red, gold-covered rose on a green branch. » | |
Justification of the coat of arms: The white cross in the red field is the coat of arms of the Order of St. John , which was the landlord of Diemerswil before 1528. The rose is taken from the coat of arms of the von Fellenberg family , who owned the Campagne Diemerswil. The coat of arms was created in 1932. |
