The hamlet of Hämlismatt in the municipality of Arni

Arni is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .

Until 1983 the official parish name was Arni ; thereafter , the canton abbreviation BE was added to make it easier to distinguish from the Aargau village of Arni , which has since formed its own political municipality.

geography

Arni is 849  m above sea level. M. , 16 km east of the canton capital Bern (linear distance). The farming village extends in a high valley on the Biglenbach , on the edge of the Arnimoos , in the Molasse heights between the Aare valley in the west and the Emmental in the east.

The area of the 10.4 km² municipal area comprises a section of the hill country east of the Aare valley. The central part of the area is occupied by the high valley of Arni with a 500 m wide flat valley floor (Arnimoos). The valley opens to the west and is drained by the Biglenbach , which rises on the northern slopes of the blistering river just outside the municipality. On its south side, the high valley is flanked by the heights of Rotiholz (up to 934  m above sea level ) and Chapf (up to 960  m above sea level ); while the Nünhaupt ( 986  m above sea level ), the wooded Geissrüggen ( 1032  m above sea level ) and the Ätzlischwand (at 1041  m above sea level, the highest elevation of Arni) form the northern end of the valley. These mountain ranges, all of the western foothills of the bladder river, have a characteristic relief: They are subdivided by numerous short valleys and protruding ridges (so-called harrows). To the west, the municipality extends to the outskirts of Biglen. In 1997, 5% of the municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 26% for forests and woodlands and 69% for agriculture.

Several hamlets belong to Arni as well as numerous groups of farms and individual farms that are scattered across the entire area. These include:

  • Arnisäge ( 822  m above sea level ) on the Biglenbach on the western edge of the Arnimoos
  • Hämlismatt ( 841  m above sea level ) in a northern side hollow of the high valley
  • Tannen ( 901  m above sea level ) on the pass at the transition to the Goldbach valley
  • Lütiwil ( 880  m above sea level ) on the southern slope of the height of Nünhaupt
  • Rot ( 814  m above sea level ) on the slope above Biglen
  • Kleinrot ( 818  m above sea level ) on the slope above Biglen

Neighboring communities of Arni are Landiswil , Oberthal , Grosshöchstetten , Biglen and Walkringen .

The place name goes back to the Old High German word arnahi (maple tree). With a confirmation of goods of the Erlach monastery by Pope Lucius III. Arni is first mentioned in a document. For the year 1359 a dispute between the farmers of Arni and the priest of Biglen is recorded . Arni belongs to the Biglen Church. In 1424 the twing of Arni von Petermann von Krauchthal († 1425) went to the von Englisberg family, later to the Hetzel and Schöni families . The tithe belonged to the Lower Hospital in Bern. The rule of Arni was subordinated to the Bernese Landvogtei Signau, established in 1529, in the Konolfingen district court. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Arni belonged to the Höchstetten district during the Helvetic Republic and from 1803 to the Konolfingen district authority, which received the status of an official district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831.
