Johann Rudolf von Graffenried
Johann Rudolf von Graffenried (baptized March 6, 1751 in Bern , † September 23, 1823 in Bern) was a Swiss military leader.
Life
Under his command, the Bernese triumphed in the Battle of Neuenegg on March 5, 1798 over the numerically superior French troops under Brigadier General Pigeon, but after the Bernese defeat in the Battle of Grauholz on the same day they were no longer able to prevent the collapse of the Ancien Régime .
In 1783, Johann Rudolf von Graffenried came into possession of the new Bümpliz Castle through his marriage to Rosina Dorothea Elisabeth Stürler, daughter of the Bümpliz lord of the castle Carl Stürler . After the fall of Old Bern, he sold it to the businessman and court governor Gottlieb Haag in 1799.
