Aare valley

With Aaretal represented by the generally Aar valley formed referred to, so in general, any valley formation through the flow between the source of the Aar at the Grimsel and the mouth of the river at Koblenz . Two regions are more often referred to as the Aare Valley in the narrower sense: the Aare valley between Bern and Thun and the Aare valley in the canton of Aargau .

Haslital

The upper part of the Aare valley including its side valleys between the Grimsel Pass and Meiringen is called Haslital .

Between Bern and Thun

The Aare flows here through relatively flat terrain within the otherwise quite hilly pre-alpine region. This plain was created after the last Ice Age , when a large lake formed after the glaciers retreated, which was gradually filled in by the debris from the rivers and of which Lake Thun and Lake Brienz still exist today.

To the east of the Aare valley are the hills of the Emmental , and to the west of the Belpberg , which separates the Aare valley from the Gürbetal .

By Aaretal leading highway A6 and the intercity route Bern-Thun, which both of Interlaken and across the Lötschberg into the Valais and to Italy leads. Belpmoos with the small airport Bern-Belp is also located in the Aare valley . Münsingen is the largest town between Bern and Thun .

Lower Aare Valley

The area along the Aare in the canton of Aargau is known as the Lower Aare Valley .
