Marianne Ehlers

Marianne Ehlers (* 1953 in Garding ) is a German or Low German librarian, author and linguist .

Life

Marianne Ehlers grew up on the Eiderstedt peninsula and graduated from the Theodor Storm School in Husum . After studying in Hamburg , she became a qualified librarian a . a. also worked in the Kellinghusen public library . Ehlers has been a speaker for Low German for the Schleswig-Holstein Heimatbund (SHHB) since 2010 .

Commitment to Low German

Marianne Ehlers grew up with Low German as a family language and has worked hard to maintain and promote Low German. In addition to numerous publications of her own, she has also contributed to the fact that more Low German is read and written in Schleswig-Holstein. Ehlers is a member of the Low German Council of Schleswig-Holstein and also represents the language policy interests of the Low German speakers on a national level in the Federal Council for Low German . In addition, Marianne Ehlers is chairwoman of the AG Nedderdüütsch in the home association of the Steinburg district and chairwoman of the association Fehrs-Gilde , Society for Low German Language, Literature and Language Policy eV

Communicating their Low German mother tongue to children and young people is a particular concern of Marianne Ehlers. In this context, she leads weekend seminars for the Schleswig-Holstein Heimatbund and gives readings in Low and High German. Self-written texts, especially short stories, play an increasingly important role alongside the recitation of classical and modern literature.
