The Theodor Storm School (TSS) is a high school founded by Sophie Jacobsen in 1866 with a music branch in Husum . It is named after the Husum writer and lawyer Theodor Storm (1817–1888).

Type and profile

The TSS has been an open all-day school since 2004 ; in the afternoons there are both lessons and special offers. The students are taken care of by the "Bis (s) trothek", which, with the help of parents, ensures that the students are fed. The profile offer of the Theodor Storm School after the new upper profile level (since school year 2008/09) includes

  • a linguistic (profile subject English),
  • two natural sciences (chemistry and biology),
  • two social sciences (profile subject economics and politics or geography) and
  • an aesthetic profile (profile subject music).

Appearance and equipment

The lower grades have four to six parallel classes. The school has three physics rooms, two IT rooms, three biology rooms, a geography room, two chemistry rooms, three art rooms, an upper level computer room, a lounge, a cafeteria , two sports halls, an auditorium and four music rooms. In the years 2004–2006 the buildings were completely overhauled and expanded. Since then, the facility has stood out for its characteristic red and blue cladding.

history

The Theodor Storm School in Husum seen from the Auweg

On November 2, 1866, Sophie Jacobsen founded a grammar school for girls in the "Homfeldschen Haus" on the market, before teaching was relocated to Neustadt after ten years. In 1900 a new building was moved into on Theodor-Storm-Straße. Converted into a municipal lyceum in 1914 , the school has been called "Theodor Storm School" since 1932. Since 1966 the TSS students have been taught in what was then the new building on Ludwig-Nissen-Straße, the yellow clinker brick of which was a noticeable feature. At the time, the school was a special construction, but its disadvantages became apparent later. After extensions (1987, 2001 and 2003) and the construction of the "Hans-Peter-Hansen-Halle" (1992–1994), almost all buildings were renovated in 2004–2006 and the flat roofs were replaced by sloping pent roofs . In the summer of 2010, a multifunctional sports facility (Thomas-Lorenzen-Platz) was added, which includes two beach volleyball and soccer fields as well as an 80 m running track with a diving pit. The Theodor Storm School is particularly known for its music branch founded in 1985.

The Theodor Storm School Husum has been recognized as a National Park School by the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park since 2011 .
