Jörn-Peter Leppien

Jörn-Peter Leppien (born August 2, 1943 in Sankt Annen, Dithmarschen ; † February 10, 2020 ) was a German historian , political scientist and publicist .

Life

Leppien grew up in Pinneberg and Ulsnis and graduated from the Schleswig Cathedral School in 1964 . He studied history, philosophy and political science in Kiel and became a research assistant at the chair for Schleswig-Holstein regional history under Alexander Scharff . Leppien then went to school at the Auguste Viktoria School in Flensburg as a teacher , and in 1979 he did his doctorate at the same time. From 1981 to 2017 he was editor-in-chief of the quarterly magazine Grenzfriedenshefte . With particular commitment he devoted himself to the establishment of a memorial at the location of the Ladelund concentration camp, a project that emerged from a student project at the Auguste Viktoria School from 1982 to 1984.

In 2004 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his services to research and communication of regional contemporary history.
