Claus von Carnap-Bornheim
Claus von Carnap-Bornheim (born November 10, 1957 in Treysa ) is a German prehistorian, museum director and board member of the Schleswig-Holstein State Museums Foundation .
Career
Carnap-Bornheim received his doctorate from the Philipps University of Marburg and also completed his habilitation there. From 1985 he worked on the Illerup project at the Forhistorisk Museum Moesgaard in Aarhus , Denmark . Since October 1999 he has held a professorship for Prehistory and Protohistory at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . He also taught as a visiting professor in Krakow , Warsaw and Vienna . Since 1999 he has been director of the Archaeological State Museum Schloss Gottorf in Schleswig and board member ofSchleswig-Holstein State Museums Foundation . From 2004 to 2018 von Carnap-Bornheim was director of the State Archaeological Office of Schleswig-Holstein. Since June 2009 he has been the executive director of the Schleswig-Holstein State Museums Foundation at Gottorf Castle. Carnap-Bornheim is a full member of the German Archaeological Institute and other scientific institutions.
His main research interests are the archeology of Central and Northern Europe of the 1st millennium, bog finds in Southern Scandinavia, the communication channels and relationships of Northern European elites of the first centuries after the birth of Christ, the spread of Roman militaria in Barbaricum and the early medieval settlement in Haithabu .
Awards
In 2017, the Danish Queen appointed Claus von Carnap-Bornheim as a member of the Dannebrog Order because of his exceptional services to science in Denmark. In 2018 he was awarded the First Class Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
