Johannes Hinz

Johannes Hinz (born March 2, 1936 in Lauenburg in Pomerania , † April 7, 2010 in Cologne ) was a German painter and non-fiction author . He wrote books on local history about Pomerania .

Born in Lauenburg in Pomerania, he spent his childhood in the Pomeranian district of Bütow . His homeland came to Poland in 1945 . Hinz came to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1950 . After graduating from high school in Michelstadt in 1957 , he first studied geography and English in Frankfurt am Main , Marburg and Cologne, but also completed evening artistic courses at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main. In 1964 he finished his studies and has lived in Cologne ever since. He worked as a painter and draftsman, with Kurt Linden being his most important mentor. His works have been shown in more than 70 solo exhibitions.

Hinz also wrote books on local history about Pomerania. His two “great deeds for which he was given a lot of recognition” (Porada) are Pommern - Wegweiser durch ein Unforgotten Land (1988) and Pommern - Lexikon (1994), both of which appeared in several editions. Since 1982 he has published articles in the cultural- political correspondence published by the East German Cultural Council .

In 2006, Hinz was awarded the Pomeranian Culture Prize. He died in 2010 at the age of 74 and was buried in the cemetery in Cologne-Longerich (Hall 17 No. 441a).
