The Pomeranian Landsmannschaft is an association of expellees . She wants to promote the cohesion of all Pomeranians in their associations and institutions. She sees herself as the representative of all Germans who have been expelled, fled or resettled from their Pomeranian homeland and their descendants.

history

From January 1947 the “Pomeranian Letter” was published on a private initiative. Isolated local groups of displaced persons from Western Pomerania emerged . This then led to the founding of the Pomeranian Landsmannschaft in the area of the three western zones of Germany on May 18, 1948 , and since 1949 at the federal level. In July 1948 the working group of the home districts developed , from which in 1967 the Pomeranian District and Cities Association emerged . On July 30 and 31, 1949, the Pomeranian Assembly of Representatives met for the first time and elected the board. In 1950 the main office was established in Hamburg . In the same year, the then spokesman signed the charter of German expellees that had just been passed for the country team.

On August 22, 1954, the state of Schleswig-Holstein took over the sponsorship of the country team from Pomerania. Until the reunification , the light blue and white Pomeranian flag waved on the Landeshaus Kiel . On December 16, 1966, the Schleswig-Holstein State Parliament passed the “Law establishing the Pomeranian Foundation ”. This foundation brought together all the collections of art and cultural objects that existed in the territory of the Federal Republic and came from the territory of the former province of Pomerania. The main collections (e.g. picture gallery) were exhibited in the Rant Zauberau of Kiel Castle .

On May 1, 1973, the federal board of the Landsmannschaft adopted the Pomeranian Manifesto , which was passed by the Assembly of Representatives at the end of the month.

In January 1987 the foundation stone was laid for the Pomerania Center in Lübeck-Travemünde , which was opened and inaugurated on September 5, 1988 by the Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker . The Pomeranian Center existed until it was sold in 2017.

After reunification, the first German meeting of the Pomeranians took place from May 1st to 3rd, 1992 in Stralsund on Dänholm there.

In 1999 the holdings of the Pomeranian Foundation were moved from Kiel to Greifswald to the newly established Pomeranian State Museum .

On January 1, 1995, the Landsmannschaft was transformed into the legal form Pommersche Landsmannschaft - Zentralverband e. V. transformed. In 2008 there was again the split into the Pomeranian Landsmannschaft on the one hand and the Pomeranian Central Association on the other. In October 2017, the Pomeranian Central Association had to file for bankruptcy. The Pomeranian Landsmannschaft continues to exist regardless of this.

The Pomeranian Center in Lübeck-Travemünde was opened on September 5, 1988 by the Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker . Since then, the Baltic Sea Academy in the Pomerania Center has offered space and a framework for seminars and excursions with the aim of understanding and dialogue with Germany's eastern neighbors.

Since 1989 the Pomeranian Center has had an extensive library, most recently comprising around 30,000 volumes, which was supported by the Central Pomeranian Association. The club library and archive of the Pommerscher Greif club were also housed there. In 2015 the library was closed. The holdings relating to Pomerania were taken over by the Pommerscher Greif association and have been located in Züssow with its association library and archive since 2015 .

The now insolvent Pomeranian Central Association sold the property of the Pomeranian Center in 2017. Thus, of the facilities of the Pomeranian Center, only the Church of Reconciliation in the Pomeranian Center remains, which is supported by a separate foundation.

Traveling exhibition "Expelled - and forgotten?"

Under the title Expelled - and Forgotten? Pomerania in German and European History has curated an exhibition that commemorates the history of Pomerania and the flight and expulsion of Germans from Central and Eastern Europe from 1945 to 1950 . In August 2013 the exhibition was to be opened in the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament in Kiel. The Landtag administration demanded that all the texts in the exhibition be submitted to it for review beforehand. Individual boards and the inviting leaflet met with displeasure from the state parliament administration and should be changed or removed. The Pomeranian Landsmannschaft did not comply and took the position that the exhibition could only be shown in its entirety with all the panels, the removal of objects would only show the history of Pomerania and the expulsion of the Pomeranians in a falsified manner.

Publications

The Pomeranian Landsmannschaft published three periodicals :

  • The weekly Die Pommersche Zeitung . It appears twelve times a year with the supplement Pommersche Heimatkirche . The newspaper was founded in 1951 under the title Pommernblatt as an organ of the Pommerschen Landsmannschaft and received its current name in 1954, Die Pommersche Zeitung . On January 1, 1956, the Pommernbrief founded by Christoph von der Ropp in 1947 was merged with the Pommerschen Zeitung. The editorial office is located in Lübeck-Travemünde, editor: Michael Hegewald (home districts, news), the Vorpommern editorial office has been in Greifswald since 2011 , chief editor of PZ: Michael Hammermeister, since 1994 (politics, Vorpommern, news).
