Walter Goerlitz
Walter Görlitz (born February 24, 1913 in Frauendorf , Randow district , † October 4, 1991 in Hamburg ) was a German writer, historian and publicist .
life and work
The son of a doctor attended the humanistic high school in Szczecin . After graduating from high school, he studied medicine and history at the University of Rostock , where he sublet lived in Walter Kempowski's parents' household . From 1936 he worked as a freelance writer. In 1955 he took over the management of the cultural policy department in the Hamburg editorial office of the newspaper “ Die Welt ”. From 1968 he headed the department for contemporary history.
Walter Görlitz wrote several books on historical topics, primarily on military history. He published the estates of the General Field Marshals of the Wehrmacht Friedrich Paulus and Wilhelm Keitel and the Admiral of the Imperial Navy , Georg Alexander von Müller .
Görlitz was awarded the Pomeranian Culture Prize in 1984.
