Eike Haenel (born October 8, 1938 in Berlin ; died November 11, 2018 ) was a German traditional scholar and collector. He was the founder and artistic director of the Pomeranian dance and folklore ensemble "Ihna". Professionally, he was head of the cultural and leisure department in Erlangen until his retirement .

Life

At the age of 4 he came back to his grandparents in Greifenberg in Pomerania with his mother and sister . His family has been in Pomerania since the 14th century and is part of the Parcham Family Foundation . In 1946 he was expelled with his mother and sister and came to Erlangen in 1951 via Süsel in Holstein and Hildesheim .

meaning

In 1957 his father Karl Haenel founded the Erlanger Pomeranian Youth, which he took over in 1959. Influenced by the state folklore ensembles of the GDR and the dance and musicologist Kurt Petermann , dance archive of the GDR in Leipzig , with whom he conducted extensive correspondence, he formed two dance groups out of the Pomeranian youth. Haenel succeeded in reconstructing sequences of old dances, song texts and traditional costumes . Most of the full-length programs consist of German folk, cult and guild dances, which contain authentic customs. For the first time in the Federal Republic of Germany , Eike Haenel developed dance pot pourris and suites that tell little stories from folk dances, songs and customs .

With the Tanzdeel “Rega”, which he founded in 1967, he toured France , Denmark , Sweden , Norway and, in addition to a larger TV program (Pomeranian Christmas customs) on ZDF, his first overseas tour to Canada .

In 1971 he founded the dance and folklore ensemble "Ihna", in Low German Danz- und Speeldeel "Ihna". The dance and folklore ensemble "Ihna" made more than 1,000 full-length events all over the Federal Republic of Germany, 35 tours abroad - some overseas - and 20 television programs - including the Eurovision programs Songs that are like bridges ... and The Superhit Parade of Folk Music known nationwide. From 1984 to 1987 the ensemble was looked after by the Schlote concert agency in Salzburg . An acrobatic group has also been part of the ensemble since 2007. On behalf of the city of Erlangen, Eike Haenel organized "Polish Culture Weeks" in Erlangen in 1976, the second ever in the Federal Republic of Germany. Thereupon the "Ihna" undertook a tour through Poland and Silesia in 1977 as the first dance group with folklore from Pomerania and East Prussia , which was followed by 15 more tours. After a tour through the United States to celebrate its 200th anniversary (June / July 1976), the Pomeranian Tanzdeel Freistadt was founded with Ihna's support in Freistadt , Wisconsin, and we are still on friendly terms with it to this day.
