It had its seat from 1952 to 1964 in Neetzow in what was then the Anklam district (today the Vorpommern-Greifswald district ). From 1964 to 1991 it was then located in Neustrelitz (today the Mecklenburg Lake District ).

history

1952 began the establishment of the Neetzow Castle for the training, rehearsal work and accommodation of the folk art ensemble to be formed. Appropriate talents for the individual disciplines, such as folk dance, singing and recitation, but also their trainers and teachers had to be sought and trained. Programs had to be developed, costumes and equipment had to be found and produced. In 1954 it could finally be officially founded as the "State Village Ensemble of the GDR".

The main component of the ensemble was the folklore ballet with 12 dance couples. This included a 32-piece choir and a music band with 12 wind instruments. Rosemarie Ehm-Schulz ( national prize winner ) was the director of the ballet until 1987 , followed by Cornelia Nenz in 1988 . Heinz-Andreas Ehm was the artistic director of the entire ensemble .

The ensemble had appearances in all districts of the GDR , but also over 50 appearances in 30 other countries. The show dance performances of the ensemble were new choreographies based on traditional folk dances .

In 1964 the ensemble was relocated to Neustrelitz because there were better accommodations and connections to other cultural branches, such as the Neustrelitz Symphony Orchestra . In 1972 the name was changed to "State Folklore Ensemble of the GDR".

In Neustrelitz, a scientific institution, the “ Mecklenburg Folklore Center ”, was incorporated into the ensemble. This dealt with the collection and processing of materials on dance, customs, music and songs from Mecklenburg (Western Pomerania did not exist in the language used at the time).

After German reunification , the ensemble was dissolved. The German Dance Company Neustrelitz, founded in 1991 as a foundation under private law, sees itself as his successor . The estate of the State Folklore Ensemble is on permanent loan from the Federal Archives Potsdam in the Leipzig Dance Archives.
