The non-profit association Pommerscher Greif e. V. is a genealogical history association.

history

The association was founded on September 30, 2000 in Greifswald on the fringes of the annual general meeting of the Society for Pomeranian History, Archeology and Art . The name refers to the coat of arms of Pomerania . It sees itself as a continuation of the Pomeranian Association for Heritage and Heraldry , which was founded in 1923 by Martin Bethe, Stettin, out of which Roland Dresden was founded.

The association is a member of the German Association of Genealogical Associations (DAGV) , the Association for Computer Genealogy , and works closely with the Association of East German Family Researchers , the Association for Mecklenburg Family and Personal History. V. (MFP), the Brandenburg Genealogical Society (BGG) “Roter Adler” e. V., the Pomeranian People, USA, the Swedish groups Genealogy about the Baltic Sea and the Society for Pomeranian History and Archeology .

According to the statutes, the purpose of the association is to research, maintain and promote the local and family history of the province of Pomerania within the boundaries of 1939 on the basis of scientific methodology and documentation. He also deals with heraldry , name research and sealing, gives research aids and publishes works on family and local history.

The association library and archive have been located in Züssow since 2015 , where they are looked after by association members on a voluntary basis. The association library has also taken over holdings from the former library in the Pomeranian Center in Travemünde , which was supported by the Pomeranian Central Association. Conversely, the club library and archive were previously housed in the Pommern-in Travemünde Center for years.

Research seminars are held once a year and joint research trips are organized at random. On its website, the association offers a digital library, the database of the hoof classification 1717–1719 in Western Pomerania (see also Peter von Blanckensee ), and the digital publication of the Danish Lustration in Swedish Pomerania 1717.

The association has over 450 members, including from countries to which Pomerania emigrated. The association's chairman was Elmar Bruhn, son of Max Bruhn , from 2001 to 2013 , and Dieter Wallschläger , a professor at the University of Potsdam , has headed the association since 2013 .
