Max Johann Wilhelm Bruhn (born September 4, 1902 in Sanzkow ; † February 6, 1987 in Hamburg ) was a German teacher, philologist , genealogist and local history researcher . He devoted himself to Pomeranian history and genealogy .

Life

The son of a farm owner went to school in Demmin and Stettin . He graduated from the teachers' seminar in Anklam and passed the examination to become a high school teacher in English and geography . In the following years he worked as a teacher. First in Wilmshagen , from 1931 in Stralsund , from 1933 in Stettin and from 1938 to 1945 in Waren (Müritz) . At the University of Greifswald , he became in 1936 the doctorate to the doctor of philosophy.

After the Second World War he found employment as a forest worker. In 1950 he was hired as a specialist teacher at the secondary school in Waren . In 1953 he switched to the Goethe High School in Demmin. On the occasion of the school anniversary he published a commemorative publication in 1957 with references to the genealogies and biographies of the teachers. However, this did not correspond to the policy of the time in the GDR and was largely confiscated. Because the state control of the education system increased, Max Bruhn went with his family to West Berlin that same year . There he taught at the Goethe-Gymnasium in Wilmersdorf . After his retirement he moved to Hanstedt (Nordheide) .

Max Bruhn published on Pomeranian history and, above all, genealogy and edited, among other things, several Pomeranian volumes of the German Gender Book . From 1962 he published works on the personal history of Pomerania in the East German family history . In 1963 he became a member of the Herald . Until 1984 he was a member of the heraldic committee of the German coat of arms as a genealogical assessor.

In 1972 he took over the editorial management of the magazine Sedina-Archiv: Familiengeschichtliche Mitteilungen Pomerania . He published this only genealogical journal specifically dealing with Pomerania from 1984 together with his son Elmar Bruhn at his own expense. Max Bruhn was the genealogical curator of the Society for Pomeranian History, Archeology and Art . One focus of his historical research was the city of Demmin and its surrounding area. He published numerous articles in the Pommerschen Zeitung and the Pommern magazine, including short stories, reviews and essays on the linguistic history of the Pomeranian Platts .
