Hans-Jürgen Heise (actually Hans-Jürgen Scheller ; born July 6, 1930 in Bublitz in Pomerania ; † November 13, 2013 in Kiel ) was a German writer who was best known for his poetry and short prose .

Life

As a child, Heise moved to Berlin with his family , returned to Bublitz during the Second World War because of the evacuation of the city and fled to (East) Berlin in 1945. Heise was a volunteer at the weekly newspaper Sonntag in 1949 and moved to West Berlin in 1950 for political reasons. Here he devoted himself seriously to writing for the first time. Heise was married for the first time from 1955 until the death of his wife in 1960. In 1961 he married the writer Annemarie Zornack . At this point Heise had already moved to Kiel , where he worked and lived as a lecturer at the university. Since then Heise has distanced himself from traditional forms and rhyme in his poems. In 1990 Heise was awarded the honorary professorship of the State of Schleswig-Holstein “in recognition and appreciation of his lyrical, essayistic and literary critical work over the past 40 years ”. Heise was an honorary member of the Society for Contemporary Poetry and since 1972 a member of the PEN Center Germany . He published about 45 books, primarily volumes of poetry.
