Annemarie Zornack

Annemarie Zornack (born March 12, 1932 in Aschersleben ) is a German poet and writer living in Kiel .

Life

Annemarie Zornack spent her youth in Magdeburg , where, like later in Kiel, she worked as a nurse. She published her first poems in the journal Lyrische Hefte, edited by Arnfrid Astel , and in avant-garde mini - presses. In 1961 she married the writer Hans-Jürgen Heise . Together they made numerous trips to Africa and South America and published travel books about them. Her poems have appeared in book editions, but also in numerous anthologies and magazines. In 1979 Annemarie Zornack received the Friedrich Hebbel Prize for her poetry , and later, as the first woman, the City of Kiel's Culture Prize . She is a member of the PEN Center Germany and has lived in Kiel since 1953.

Poetry

In her rhymed poems, Annemarie Zornack captures everyday scenes from her youth or her present existence and condenses them with great art of language. She mostly uses lower case letters and often dispenses with punctuation . Critics like Karl Krolow attest her poetry to the beauty of words, musicality and style. Its range of topics is broad, it covers, among other things, small moments of happiness, everyday objects, memories of puberty, experiences of alienation, zeitgeist, eroticism, your Baltic Sea environment, fantasies and moods. She often surprises with an unusual beginning of a poem, addressing the reader immediately and drawing attention to things that usually remain hidden with haunting clarity of words.
