Walter Helmut Fritz (born August 26, 1929 in Karlsruhe , † November 20, 2010 in Heidelberg ) was a German poet , essayist and novelist .

life and work

Walter Helmut Fritz came from a family of architects. He grew up in Waldprechtsweier , Rastatt and Karlsruhe. After he had passed the Abitur in 1949, he studied literature , philosophy and modern languages at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg until 1954 . He then worked as a high school teacher in Karlsruhe. Since 1964 he has been a freelance writer. At first he also taught at times as a lecturer at the Technical University of Karlsruhe , and from 1968 to 1970 he was a lecturer at S. Fischer Verlag in Frankfurt am Main .

In addition to a few novels and occasional essays, Walter Helmut Fritz has primarily published poetry . He was regarded as a representative of a "quiet", laconic form of the poem; The focus is on the sober description of nature and everyday observations, which are often used to illustrate psychological relationships and developments.

Walter Helmut Fritz was a member of the PEN Center Germany , the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz and the German Academy for Language and Poetry in Darmstadt .
