Harald Hartung (born October 29, 1932 in Herne ) is a German writer and literary scholar .

life and work

Harald Hartung comes from a family of miners . He spent his childhood in Herne , Mülheim an der Ruhr and in Prague . After graduating from high school, he began studying German and philosophy at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster in 1954 , which he continued at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and graduated with the state examination in 1960 . From 1960 to 1965 he worked as a high school teacher at schools in the Ruhr area . In 1966 he went to Berlin , where he worked as a lecturer at the University of Education . In 1971 he moved to the Technical University of Berlin ; there he held a professorship for German language and literature until his retirement in 1998 . From 1983 to 1986 he was honorary director of the Berlin Literary Colloquium .

In addition to his work as a lecturer, literary critic and editor , Harald Hartung has also emerged as a writer of poems and essays . Harald Hartung is a member of the PEN Center Germany , the Academy of the Arts (Berlin) , the Mainz Academy of Sciences and Literature and the German Academy for Language and Poetry in Darmstadt.
