The Lyrik Kabinett is a reading society of friends and lovers of poetry in Munich . It has existed as an association since 1994 and as a foundation since 2003 . The Lyrik Kabinett Foundation promotes poetry and its communication. As a forum dedicated exclusively to poetry, the Munich Lyrik Kabinett is unique in Germany in this form. At the international level, the Lyrik Kabinett corresponds to the poetry centers in other countries, such as the National Poetry Library in London.

Lyrik Kabinett Munich / Lyrik Kabinett Foundation

The association and foundation owe themselves to the private patronage initiative of Ursula Haeusgen (* 1942), the chairwoman of the foundation. Her donation of a collection of poetry volumes from all over the world, artist books, rare first editions as well as selected secondary and reference literature was initially the basis of an association, from 2003 to the Lyrik Kabinett Foundation. After Ursula Haeusgen had a new library building built in 2004 (on a piece of land made available by LMU), the Lyrik Kabinett moved into these rooms in spring 2005; This is where the events take place, surrounded by works of contemporary art. The management of the Lyrik Kabinett was taken over by Maria Gazzetti from 2012 to the end of 2013, with Holger Pils on January 1, 2014.

Library

The Lyrik Kabinett maintains the second largest lyric library in Europe with currently around 65,000 media: German-language and international poetry, including numerous high-quality artist books, audio and video media, around 50 magazines on subscription, etc. The library is systematically increased by approx 2000 units have been expanded and are open to everyone. It can be accessed and consulted through an electronic catalog. The holdings can also be researched using the Bavarian Union Catalog.

The foundation organizes around 45 events on international poetry each year (around 1,500 by mid-2019): readings with contemporary poets from all over the world and events on authors from ancient times to the 20th century . About half are readings by authors, the other half present authors from earlier epochs who “stayed alive”. German and foreign language authors are represented in roughly equal proportions. The readings by foreign language authors are usually bilingual. The readings are preceded by a brief introduction.

For spoken word art, the Lyrik Kabinett offers the Poetry in Motion forum once a month . For this purpose, the library rooms are being transformed into a lounge landscape with barbies and disco balls. Ko Bylanzky will moderate the series. All readings are documented by recordings.

There are also discussion events on poetry - such as the series Das Lyrischen Quartett - or conferences and the like. Ä.
