Florian Kessler (born 1981 in Heidelberg ) is a German cultural journalist and editor .

Life

Florian Kessler attended school in Heidelberg and after completing community service he studied creative writing and cultural journalism at the University of Hildesheim . He wrote his diploma thesis with Hanns-Josef Ortheil and Stephan Porombka . Kessler received his doctorate in 2011 in Hildesheim with a dissertation on workshop discussions . As a freelance journalist, he writes for Tagesspiegel , Süddeutsche Zeitung and Die Zeit . In early 2015 he took up a position as a lecturer for contemporary German literature at Hanser Verlag .

At the beginning of 2014, he criticized the social composition of the students in the literary writing courses and derived theses from this on the artistic adaptability of contemporary German-language literature. The article, which is also in the anthology “Something with Writing. Diplomautoren im Beruf “was published, triggered a literary debate with numerous requests to speak in various feature sections and weblogs

Kessler was co-editor of the literary magazine Bella triste and was one of the directors of the Prosanova 2005 literature festival .

In 2013 he received the Nicolas Born Prize .

Together with the critics Kristina Maidt-Zinke and Hubert Spiegel, he has been a permanent member of the Lyric Quartet in the Lyrik Kabinett Munich since 2017 .
