Bogdan Bacanu (born July 31, 1975 in Bucharest , Romania ) is an Austrian marimba player . Since 1998 he has been Professor of Marimba at the Anton Bruckner Private University Linz in Linz / Austria .

Career

Since the age of 23 he has been a lecturer in marimba at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz (Austria). At the age of five he received piano lessons in his native Bucharest and at the age of 13 he was the drummer with the Bucharest Philharmonic George Enescu. Bogdan Bacanu studied marimba at the Mozarteum University in his current hometown of Salzburg, with his mentor Prof. Peter Sadlo.

Since then, Bogdan Bacanu has given solo concerts and concerts with orchestra and ensemble and toured in many European countries, North America, Asia and Australia. He has given concerts with well-known artists such as Keiko Abe , Gidon Kremer and Peter Sadlo , worked a. a. with conductors Dennis Russell Davies , Cristian Mandeal and Horia Andreescu and performed with various orchestras, e. Bogdan Bácanu is a lecturer at the International Summer Academy Mozarteum Salzburg, was visiting professor at the Zeltsman Marimba Festival in the USA, at the 4th International Marimba Festival 2004 in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Mexico and has been invited to master classes by renowned universities and festivals around the world.

As the artistic director of the International Marimba Festival Linz, he initiated a regularly recurring cultural event. After the great and ongoing success of his festival, he finally founded the International Marimba Competition in 2006 with a top-class jury. The competition has been held every three years since 2009 in cooperation with the University and International Summer Academy Mozarteum in Salzburg .

Composers such as John Thrower (Canada / Germany), Alexander Müllenbach (Luxembourg / Austria) and Emmanuel Séjourné (France) wrote and dedicated works and concerts to him, some of which he published on his CDs.

Bogdan Bacanu arranges the compositions of Johann Sebastian Bach , for example the harpsichord concerts BWV 1060 to BWV 1062, which he performed on his CD with The Wave Quartet , Peter Sadlo (conductor) and the Barockorchester Salzburg Barock . Further arrangements by Bacanu such as the Chaconne from the Partita in D minor BWV 1004 and the harpsichord concertos BWV 1052, 1054 and 1056 have been released on CD.
