Cristian Mandeal

Cristian Mandeal (born April 18, 1946 in Rupea , Târnava Mare , Romania ) is a Romanian musician , pianist and conductor . From 1991 to 2010 he was conductor of the George Enescu Philharmonic from Bucharest .

Life

Cristian Mandeal studied piano, composition and conducting at the Liceul de Muzică in Brașov and at the Academia de Muzică din București from 1965 to 1974. He perfected his skills in 1980 in Berlin with Herbert von Karajan and in 1990 in Munich with Sergiu Celibidache .

Artistic career

Career in Romania

  • Permanent conductor of the "Constantin Silvestri" Philharmonic in Târgu Mureș from 1977 to 1980;
  • Permanent conductor of the State Philharmonic "Transilvania" in Cluj-Napoca from 1980 to 1987;
  • Artistic Director of the George Enescu International Festival and Competition in 2001 and 2003.
  • Head of the "George Enescu" Philharmonic in Bucharest from 1991 to 2010;
