The district of Târnava-Mare (Romanian Județul Târnava-Mare ) was the successor of the Groß-Kokelburg County, a historical administrative unit in Transylvania as part of the Kingdom of Romania . The seat of the administration and the tribunal was the city of Sighișoara . Târnava Mare County existed from 1920 to 1950, when the Jews were abolished as part of the Soviet organization of Romania . This circle was the only circle in the Kingdom of Romania with a relative Evangelical Lutheran majority.

Geographical location

It bordered the Târnava-Mică and Odorhei districts in the north, the Brașov district in the east, and the Făgăraş and Sibiu districts in the south.

Demographics

In the 1930 census, 147,994 inhabitants were registered, of which 44.8% Romanians, 39.7% Germans , 11.8% Magyars , 2.6% Roma and the like. a. Regarding religious affiliation, 39.2% were Protestant, 36.6% Orthodox, 10.4% Uniate , 6.2% Reformed, 4.5% Roman Catholics etc. a. registered.
