Katarzyna Mycka

Katarzyna Mycka (* 1972 ) is a Polish marimba and percussion musician.

biography

Mycka studied at the Gdansk Music Academy with stays at the music academies in Stuttgart and Salzburg . She appeared as the first soloist in 1998 at the First Marimba Festival in Osaka (Japan) and at the International Marimba Festival in Linz (2004). She has performed as a soloist a. a. with the Stuttgart Philharmonic , the Bochum Symphony , the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn , the Beijing Symphonic Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra , the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic, the Erfurt Philharmonic Orchestra, the Slovak Philharmonic, the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra and the Polish Philharmonic Orchestra in Gdansk , Poland , Szczecin , Opole and Wałbrzych .

In 1999 the artist was awarded the “Ambassador of Polish Percussion Art” award by the “Polish Percussive Arts Society”. This was followed by a scholarship from the Baden-Württemberg Art Foundation and invitations to international concerts and master classes. B. in the USA, Japan, China, Taiwan and Mexico. Katarzyna Mycka made her American debut at the 1997 PASIC International Drum Festival in Anaheim , Los Angeles. In 2001 and 2008 there were further invitations to PASIC in the USA. Since 2005 she has been president of the "Percussive Arts Society" (PAS) German Chapter.

Katarzyna Mycka has also been a juror at international drum competitions since 1999. In 1999 and 2002 she was a member of the jury at the International Percussion Competition in Luxembourg, in 2000 at the First Polish Marimba Competition in Warsaw, 2001 at the percussion competition in Ostrava / CZ, 2004 national competition “ Jugend musiziert ” in Villingen, 2005 at the “Pendim percussion competition” in Pleven / Bulgaria and in 2006 at the “International Marimba Competition” in Linz.

Katarzyna Mycka has been teaching at the I. Paderewski Music Academy in Poznań since October 2006 . It is the first university in Poland where you can complete a master's degree in marimba. In 2003, 2005 and 2007 the International Katarzyna Mycka Marimba Academy (IKMMA) took place in the city of Wrocław . This very successful academy, which is known far beyond European borders, was continued in Frankfurt / Main in 2009.
