Concours de Genève
The Concours de Genève (until 1999 Concours international d'exécution musicale de Genève , called CIEM-Genève ) is an international music competition that takes place every year in Geneva .
Story and content
Originally, the competition was devoted to piano or singing each year, alternating with a second instrument (violin, viola, cello, flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, trumpet, trombone, percussion instrument or string quartet). Since 2011, the Concours de Genève has been an international competition for composition in odd years and for interpretation in even years .
The Concours de Genève was founded in 1939 by Henri Gagnebin and Frédéric Liebstoeckl . It is subsidized by the City of Geneva and the Canton of Geneva . It is organized by a foundation in partnership with the Orchester de la Suisse Romande , the Grand Théâtre (Geneva Opera) and the Conservatoire de musique de Genève . The competition was headed by Frédéric Liebstoeckl until 1979, then by Franco Fisch until 1998 , and Didier Schnorhk has been Secretary General ever since .
The Board of Trustees consists of representatives from the Orchester de la Suisse Romande , the Grand Théâtre de Genève , the Conservatoire de musique de Genève and the Circle of Friends.
