Nell Rankin

Nell Rankin (born January 3, 1923 , † January 13, 2005 ) was an American opera singer (mezzo-soprano).

Life

Rankin had an excellent mezzo-soprano voice . She has sung at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City for more than 10 years . She also had many engagements at La Scala in Milan for a long time.

In 1950 Rankin became the first American woman to win first prize at the Concours international d'exécution musicale in Geneva .

Rankin died on January 13, 2005 of a rare bone marrow disease, leaving behind her husband, Hugh Davidson.
