Martin Fröst (born December 14, 1970 in Sundsvall ) is a Swedish clarinetist .

Fröst started playing the violin at the age of six and the clarinet at the age of nine. After completing primary school, he moved to Stockholm at the age of 15 to study clarinet with Sölve Kingstedt at the music academy there. He later continued his training at the Hanover University of Music and Drama with Hans Deinzer . Today Fröst is considered internationally as one of the best clarinet soloists.

Martin Fröst has recorded various CDs, including Mozart's , Nielsen , Ahos and Weber's clarinet concertos, works by Hindemith , Copland and Arnold as well as works for clarinet and piano , including the sonatas op.120 by Brahms , together with the pianist Roland Pöntinen .

From the 2006/07 to 2008/09 season, Martin Fröst was an artist in the “Junge Wilde” series at the Dortmund Konzerthaus .

In 2014 Fröst was awarded the Léonie Sonning Music Prize and in 2016 the ECHO Klassik Instrumentalist of the Year Award in the clarinet category.
