Matti Lehtinen

Matti Kalervo Lehtinen (born April 24, 1922 in Lappeenranta ) is a Finnish opera singer ( baritone ).

Life

Lehtinen studied solo singing at the Sibelius Academy from 1945 to 1948 and completed his studies in 1949 at the Royal Stockholm Opera . His operas - debut he had in 1949 in Helsinki and then got a permanent job at the Finnish National Opera .

In 1950 Matti Lehtinen won first prize in the singing competition of the Concours de Genève in Geneva . From 1952 to 1955 he was a member of the ensemble of the Cologne Opera . He then worked as a freelance concert, opera, oratorio and lieder singer until 1963 . In 1957 he sang the title role in the world premiere of the opera Tilman Riemenschneider in Basel .

In the fall of 1963, Lehtinen took over an engagement at the Finnish National Opera and a professorship for vocal arts at the Sibelius Academy , a post he held until 1987.

He was the 1965 medal Pro Finlandia awarded.

At the national opera , but also at the opera festival in Savonlinna , he created numerous memorable interpretations of important roles in his field, e. B.
