history

The publishing house was officially founded on July 17, 1978 by Angelika Andruchowicz, Manfred Metzner and Hans Thill .

Publisher profile

The focus of the publishing program is on contemporary prose and poetry, on Francophone literature, books about art , as well as on literary and intercultural series such as B. the project German trip to Plovdiv . The publishing program includes book series (" Edition Künstlerhaus ", "Deutsche Reise nach Plovdiv ", "Poetry of the Neighbors", "VERSschmuggel"), artist books, design (Bruno Munari, Ralf Christofori), exhibition activities (Pierre Verger, Ré Soupault), collaborations with Museums (Museum Prinzhorn , Museum Ritter , Kurpfälzisches Museum Heidelberg , Völklinger Hütte ), with art associations (Heidelberg, Mannheim, Ludwigshafen, Stuttgart) and the Heidelberg Theater.

The publishing house traces the literary and cultural life of Heidelberg with Michael Buselmeier's “Literary Guided Tours”. With the Deutschlandfunk poetry calendar and numerous anthologies, the publishing house was and is one of the most prominent poetry publishers in Germany. In intercultural dialogue Wunderhorn has for years with Édouard Glissant (culture and identity), Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio ( Nobel Prize for Literature in 2008), Abdelwahab Meddeb (The Malady of Islam, between Europe and Islam), Dany Laferrière ( International Literature Prize - House of cultures of the world 2014 for the novel The Riddle of Return ), Patrick Chamoiseau special accents. Since 2010, authors of contemporary African literature have been translated in the book series "AfrikAWunderhorn", such as Helon Habila , Binyavanga Wainaina , Maaza Mengiste , Lebogang Mashile etc.
