The working group of independent cultural institutes e. V. (AsKI) is an association of currently 37 nationally and internationally respected, independent cultural and research institutes, founded in 1967 on the initiative of the Federal Minister of the Interior , which through a valuable collection particularly represent the quality and diversity of cultural Germany. Its members are independent, not-for-profit and are largely privately financed. The AsKI e. V. is the sponsor of the Casa di Goethe in Rome. The office of the AsKI e. V. is located in Bonn .

The association receives funding from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media .

State tasks

General government tasks are:

  • Maecenas award : Awarded every two years, since 2010 annually, to personalities with outstanding commitment to art and culture
  • Casa di Goethe : Museum with study opportunities in the center of Rome in the house that Goethe housed during his Italian trip
  • Exhibitions: group exhibitions initiated or supported by several member institutes at changing locations
  • Specialist conferences and seminars: on current cross-border legal, educational and technical issues
  • Culture reports and KULTUR lively : The culture reports, the magazine for ongoing information about the activities of the member institutes, appeared from 1986 to 2004. From 2005 they were replaced by the twice a year magazine KULTUR lively .
