Johann Heinrich Merck Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Johann Heinrich Merck Prize for literary criticism and essay was donated by Merck KGaA in 1964 . It has since been awarded by the German Academy for Language and Poetry during its annual autumn conference, at the same time as the Georg Büchner Prize and the Sigmund Freud Prize . The endowment has been € 20,000 since 2013.

The prize is dedicated to Johann Heinrich Merck (1741–1791), the author of "exemplary reviews and essays," as the Academy writes.
