Heinz F. Schafroth

Heinz Friedrich Schafroth (born March 18, 1932 in Möhlin ; † March 12, 2013 in Biel ; resident in Röthenbach in the Emmental ) was a Swiss journalist and literary critic .

Life

Heinz F. Schafroth studied German and Classical Philology in Bern and Vienna and received his doctorate in 1957. From 1957 to 1992 he worked as a high school teacher at the Deutsches Gymnasium Biel , where he taught Greek and German, had been married to the secondary school teacher Ruth Friedli since 1959 and lived in Alfermée . From 1978 to 1999 he was also a lecturer at the ETH Zurich , where from 1997 he headed the literary program at the Collegium Helveticum .

Schafroth wrote as a literary critic primarily for the Frankfurter Rundschau . He was a sponsor of the authors Gerhard Meier , Peter Weber and Friederike Mayröcker and editor of text collections on Ilse Aichinger , Peter Handke and Brigitte Kronauer . He wrote a monograph on Günter Eich .

In 1997 he received the Johann Heinrich Merck Prize and in 2001 became a member of the German Academy for Language and Poetry in Darmstadt . In 2006 he received the honorary gift of the Canton of Bern for teaching literature . In 1979 he was a founding member of the Solothurn Literature Days Association .
