Great literature prize from the city and canton of Bern
The City and Canton of Bern's Great Literature Prize has been awarded since 2010 by a jury of experts from the City and Canton of Bern's literary commissions . The prize is expected to be awarded every four years and is endowed with CHF 30,000 (as of 2018). It replaces the Grand Literature Prize of the Canton of Bern .
background
The Great Literature Prize of the City and Canton of Bern is intended to honor “an outstanding literary oeuvre with strong ties to the city and canton of Bern”. It is awarded by an expert jury made up of members of the city and cantonal literature commission and is “part of a coordinated and coherent funding policy in the literature of the city and canton: while the cantonal literature commission awards book prizes every year, the city commission supports writers with grants the further work on her literary work ”. This continues to happen in parallel with the Bern Literature Prize , awarded by the City of Bern. The Grand Literature Prize of the Canton of Bern , which was awarded until 2010, will be replaced or expanded by the new prize. It was awarded periodically by an expert jury of the cantonal German-language literature commission of the canton of Bern and was endowed with 25,000 francs. He was also considered “a sign of appreciation and recognition for the entire literary works of outstanding Bernese literary creators” who “live and work in the canton of Bern, are entitled to live here or have lived in the canton of Bern for a long time and have left their mark”.
As before, the expert jury decides autonomously on the award of the award - applications or recommendations from literary professionals are not possible.
