Life
Matthias Zschokke is a great-great-great-grandson of the Magdeburg- born writer Heinrich Zschokke . After attending the drama school in Zurich , he worked with Peter Zadek at the Schauspielhaus Bochum . Zschokke has lived as a writer and filmmaker in Berlin since 1980, a theme that is repeatedly present in his works or as a background. In the past 25 years, Zschokke has presented eleven volumes of prose, eight plays and three films.
In 1995, the literary brokerage house characterized Zschokke's work as follows: "Zschokke questions society in a funny and ironic way, transcending all the norms and formal boundaries of traditional narrative literature." “Refusal as style” ( Heinz F. Schafroth ) is significant for Zschokke's entire artistic work . Zschokke counteracts traditional art patterns and expectations of art: “… a sly canny understanding ” ( Der Spiegel ).
