Bern Literature Prize
The Bern Literature Prize or Literature Prize of the City of Bern is awarded by a specialist jury from Bern . The prize has been awarded annually since 1940 in different amounts and in different categories to support writers who have a special connection to the city of Bern. The main categories are literary award , “writing on” , book award , special award and sponsorship award ; before 1969 there was no differentiation into different categories.

The Bern Literature Prize “honors the entire literary oeuvre of a Bern author on the occasion of the publication of a new work”. The idea of the prize is to free talented authors from other livelihoods for a while so that they can concentrate fully on working on literary projects. In addition, with the award of the prize, the Commission can also send a cultural and political signal, “by B. a group or institution that has made a name for itself in the literary scene of the city of Bern. The commission also reserves the right to award special prizes at irregular intervals ”.
