Erwin Heimann

Erwin Heimann (born February 20, 1909 in Bern , † August 21, 1991 in Heiligenschwendi in the canton of Bern ) was a Swiss writer. He became known as the author of novels (in German) as well as short stories and radio plays in Bernese dialect .

Life

Erwin Heimann was born on February 20, 1909 as the son of a railroad worker in Bern. After secondary school he completed an apprenticeship as a heating fitter. Between 1930 and 1933 he stayed in Paris. Having become unemployed, he wrote reports and feature articles for various Swiss newspapers. During his stay he wrote his first novel Wir Menschen , which was published in Bern in 1935. The book was banned in Germany for political reasons and in Austria for moral reasons; Heimann made a name for himself as a working-class writer .

In 1936 he married the children's book author Gertrud Heizmann ; In 1937 their son, who later became crime novelist Alexander Heimann , was born. In 1946 he became an editor at the Francke publishing house in Bern. He co-edited Simon Gfeller's work and in 1956 compiled a complete publisher's directory for his employer. From 1956 to 1963 Heimann was responsible for public relations for the municipal transport company in Bern . He was a freelance writer from 1963; he also worked for various newspapers and the Swiss radio DRS . In 1985, he wrote a village chronicle for his long-term residence in Heiligenschwendi ob Thun .
