Helmut Schilling

Helmut Schilling (born August 28, 1906 in Bern ; † February 11, 1984 there ) was a Swiss writer .

Life

Schilling was born to parents in southern Germany and attended the literary high school in Bern. He studied philology , history and theater studies in Bern, Heidelberg , at the Sorbonne in Paris and in Berlin from 1925 to 1930 . During his studies he became a member of the Allemannia Heidelberg fraternity in 1926 . In 1930 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . After his exam in Karlsruhe in 1930 , he became a trainee lawyer in Bern and took his second exam in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1932 . In 1932 he became a study assessor . In the mid-1930s, he received Swiss citizenship . He went on numerous study trips around the world and worked from 1938 as a freelance writer , literary critic , radio author and radio announcer. He worked for Die Weltwoche . In 1943 he received citizenship in Bern . For a long time he worked as a theater correspondent for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung and the Basler Nationalzeitung . In 1944 he married Edith Herzog. From 1944 to 1977 he worked in Bern as a high school and adult education center teacher. He was a member of the Society of Swiss Dramatists (GSD) and its president from 1957 to 1966. He was also a member of the Swiss Press Association and chairman of the Bernese Writers 'Association as well as a member of the Berlin Dramatists' Union .

He wrote numerous dramas , some in dialect . In the City Theater Bern his plays were The die is cast (1949), passenger Seven (1950) and degree dä (1957) premiered. In addition to numerous awards, he received the City of Bern Literature Prize in 1946 and 1968 .
