Jörg Steiner (born October 26, 1930 in Biel / Bienne ; † January 20, 2013 there ) was a Swiss writer .

Life

Jörg Steiner - son of a civil engineering technician - attended the advanced seminar in Bern after a broken apprenticeship as a druggist . After completing his apprenticeship, he first worked as a teacher in a home for the difficult-to- educate in Aarwangen and then until 1971 as a primary school teacher in Biel / Bienne and Nidau .

Steiner interrupted his work several times for longer trips and stays abroad. a. in France , Spain , USA and East Africa . 1971/1972 he received a scholarship at the Basel Theater . From 1972 to 1978 Steiner was a city ​​councilor in Biel, where he also lived.

Steiner often describes in his works - based on personal experiences during his youth and his time as a teacher - the problems of social outsiders. He became known to a wide audience through his collaboration with the illustrator Jörg Müller on a series of picture books .

Jörg Steiner had been a member of the Bern writers' association and the Olten group since 1960 ; since 1970 he has been a member of the Association of German Writers .

Jörg Steiner was married to the gallery owner Silvia Steiner, who died nine months before him. Jörg Steiner died of cancer.
