Felix Philipp Ingold

Felix Philipp Ingold (born July 25, 1942 in Basel ) is a Swiss writer, publicist, translator and editor . He is emeritus professor for the cultural and social history of Russia at the University of St. Gallen .

After graduating from high school (Realgymnasium Basel, 1960) Felix Philipp Ingold completed an internship at Phoebus Publishers. From 1961 he studied history, art history, philosophy and theology of the Eastern Church at the University of Basel . He was an external employee of the Swiss Radio DRS in the Basel culture studio and wrote for the Basler Nachrichten and the National-Zeitung .

Ingold spent study stays in Paris at the Sorbonne , the Ecole Nationale des Langues Orientales Vivantes and the Collège de France , mainly with linguistic studies (Russian, Polish, Slovenian), Slavic studies (with Henri Grandjard, Sophie Bonneau et al.) And comparative studies ( with René Etiemble , Robert Minder et al.). In 1968 he was in Basel with a dissertation on the poetics of Russian Symbolism Dr. phil. PhD.

In 1968/69 he worked in Prague and Brno with a scholarship from the Czechoslovakian Writers' Union. From 1969 he was the cultural correspondent for Weltwoche and the Basler Zeitung on reports in Eastern Europe (USSR, Poland, Czechoslovakia); For a year and a half he was diplomatic assistant at the Swiss embassy in Moscow, where he worked as a press attaché and translator.

Ingold is the author, editor and translator of numerous magazine and book publications, especially in the field of comparative and Slavic literary studies , as an external cultural correspondent and reviewer for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung , the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , the Basler Zeitung , the Zeit , the magazine Volltext , the science newspaper Recherche and other publications.

Ingold has been an associate professor (from 1978 until his retirement in 2005 full professor) for the cultural and social history of Russia at the Hochschule (later university) St. Gallen since 1971. He also worked as a lecturer at the ETH Zurich . In 1992/93 Ingold was a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin . He undertook various lecture tours and workshops in Germany and abroad (Germany, Italy, Austria, Japan).

Since his stays in Prague and Moscow, Ingold has been building up a collection of Russian books, especially the Russian avant-garde.

He lives in Zurich and Romainmôtier .
