Iris Radisch

Iris Radisch (born July 2, 1959 in Berlin ) is a German literary critic . She has been writing for the weekly newspaper Die Zeit since 1990 .

Life

Iris Radisch studied German , Romance languages and philosophy at the universities of Frankfurt am Main and Tübingen . She began her professional career as a literature editor. She wrote for the Frankfurter Rundschau before moving to the time in 1990 . As a sideline, Radisch took on visiting professorships, including in St. Louis and Göttingen , and worked as a presenter for various television stations, including ZDF , ARD , WDR and the private broadcaster VOX .

Iris Radisch gained greater fame when ZDF signed her for the program Das literäre Quartett in August 2000 . She replaced Sigrid Löffler, who left the dispute with Reich-Ranicki , on the prominent book talk show with Marcel Reich-Ranicki and Hellmuth Karasek . Radisch remained a permanent participant in the program until the last regular episode in December 2001 and in the special programs on the occasion of the anniversaries of Friedrich Schiller , Thomas Mann , Heinrich Heine and Bertolt Brecht in 2005 and 2006.

From 2002 to 2003 Iris Radisch and Gert Scobel - moderators of Kulturzeit and ARD-Morgenmagazin - moderated the literary program Bücher, Bücher des Hessischer Rundfunks on a weekly basis . From August 2006 to September 2012 she was the successor to Roger Willemsen and headed the Swiss television literary club every month (broadcast on SF 1 and 3sat ).

From 1995 to 2000 she was a member of the jury for the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize , which has been awarded since 1977 as part of the Days of German Language Literature in Klagenfurt ; From 2003 to 2007 she was a member of the jury there as chairwoman.

In 2007 Iris Radisch published her book Die Schule der Frauen about her experiences as a working mother of three. Books on Albert Camus and French literature followed.

In 2008 she was awarded the Media Prize for Language Culture by the Society for German Language in the "Press" category. In 2009, the French Minister of Culture, Christine Albanel, appointed Radisch “ Chevalier des Arts et Lettres ”. Since April 2013 she has headed the feature section of ZEIT together with Adam Soboczynski .

In 2020 she was awarded the Johann Heinrich Merck Prize for literary criticism and essay .

Iris Radisch is married to the FAZ column editor Eberhard Rathgeb (* 1959). The couple has three daughters.
