Iso Camartin (born March 24, 1944 in Chur ) is a Swiss publicist , writer and television presenter .

Life

Iso Camartin grew up in Disentis , where he attended the convent school. From 1965 he studied philosophy and Romance languages in Munich , Bologna and Regensburg ; he received his doctorate in 1971 on Kant and Fichte . From 1974 to 1977 he worked as a research fellow at the "Center for European Studies" at Harvard University . In addition to his journalistic work, he held lectureships at various Swiss universities.

From 1985 to 1997 he was full professor for Romansh literature and culture at the ETH Zurich and at the University of Zurich . In the academic year 1989/1990 Carmartin was a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin . Between 1996 and 1998 he was also the presenter of the show Sternstunde Kunst on SF 1 . From 2000 to 2003 he was head of the cultural department of Swiss television . Since then he has been working as a freelance journalist and writer. In 2005 he gave the opening speech for the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize in Klagenfurt.

Iso Camartin is a member of the German Academy for Language and Poetry and the Swiss Writers' Association . He lives in Zurich .
