Culture and science award of the city of Kiel
The Culture and Science Prize of the City of Kiel is an award endowed with 10,000 euros , which is awarded by the Schleswig-Holstein state capital Kiel . The prize is awarded to individuals, groups or institutions "whose work has a special relationship with Kiel or Schleswig-Holstein and who have made outstanding contributions beyond the state". The painter Emil Nolde was the first winner of the culture prize introduced by the city of Kiel in 1952 . Since then, with the exception of 1957, 1978, 1993, 1995, 1997 and 1999, the prize has been awarded annually. In 2001, the City of Kiel's Science Prize was introduced, which has been awarded annually alternating with the Culture Prize.
