Stefan Schreiber (doctor)

Stefan Schreiber (* 1962 in Berlin-Charlottenburg ) is a German internist and professor at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel .

Career

Schreiber studied medicine at the University of Hamburg , the University of California, San Diego and Harvard University . In Hamburg he was trained as an internist and gastroenterologist from 1987 to 1994 . Then he went to the Charité in Berlin . In 1994, as a senior physician, he founded a research group focusing on the genetic etiology and molecular pathophysiology of inflammatory bowel disease ( Crohn's disease ). His habilitationtook place in Berlin in 1996. In 1998, Schreiber was appointed professor of internal medicine and gastroenterology at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel. Since 2005 he has been a full professor and director of the Institute for Clinical Molecular Biology at the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein . He has been there since 2009, succeeding Ulrich R. Fölsch , also director of the Clinic for Internal Medicine I. Dean of the Medical Faculty from 2006 to 2013.

Work areas

Schreiber works in the areas of chronic inflammatory barrier diseases, gallstones, colorectal carcinoma , varicose veins and longevity . Among other things, Schreiber discovered one of the essential genes whose mutations cause Crohn's disease. The “age gene” FOXO3 was also discovered in his working group .
