Harald Duwe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Harald Duwe (born January 28, 1926 in Hamburg-Rothenburgsort , † June 15, 1984 in Tremsbüttel ) was a German painter .

Life

Harald Duwe was the son of Elke Nieland and Hans Duwe. His father worked in his grandparents' trucking business. In 1942, Harald Duwe completed an apprenticeship as a lithographer in Hamburg, which he continued in Leipzig in 1944 and ended with a journeyman's certificate in 1945 - interrupted by two months as a prisoner of war . From 1945 to 1950 he studied at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg. His fellow students included u. a. Vicco von Bülow , Horst Janssen , Paul Wunderlich , Bernd Hering . This is where Harald Duwe and Heilwig Ploog met. The couple married in 1951; the marriage resulted in the children Katharina (* 1952), Johannes (* 1956) and Tobias (* 1961).

Since completing his studies, Harald Duwe has worked as a freelance artist. In 1954 he received a scholarship from the Kulturkreis in the Federal Association of German Industry . During these years mainly landscape paintings were created that could not be sold to the extent hoped for.

In 1964, Harald Duwe took on a teaching position for spatial representation at the Hamburg Engineering School for Vehicle Technology , which is integrated into today's Hamburg University of Applied Sciences . In the following years figure pictures were created.

In 1966, a scholarship from the state of Schleswig-Holstein led Duwe to the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris for six months . The work Graue Wand , begun there and completed in 1968, is considered to be his first major work, which heralded his future position as a critical realist.

In 1969 Harald Duwe joined the SPD. In the Schleswig-Holstein state election campaign in 1970/71, he supported - together with Thomas Ayck , Siegfried Lenz and Peter Nagel - as part of the North Voting Initiative, Jochen Steffen's candidacy for Prime Minister.

The topics of the armed forces , leisure time and the environment were now part of his repertoire. Duwe made the decision to separate contract work and freelance work. From 1974 the range of topics expanded to include demonstration pictures , industrial pictures and pictures of society.

In 1975 Duwe received a lectureship for fine art / painting at the University of Applied Sciences in Kiel , today's Muthesius Art College . He finished teaching in Hamburg in 1977. Commissioned by Karl Finckes, Duwe painted the Lord's Supper in 1978, one of the main works of his images of society.

Another major work was created with the four-part depiction of love - a very everyday story. During these years Duwe supplemented his work on the historical complex National Socialism . Urban landscapes were created during a stay in New York in 1983. On the occasion of an anniversary exhibition for used cars, Duwe - together with students - painted a BMW 2000 CS model .

On June 15, 1984, Harald Duwe died on the federal highway 404 between Segeberg and Schwarzenbek near Tremsbüttel as a result of a traffic accident.

On November 20, 2016, an episode of the NDR's Lieb & Teuer program was broadcast, moderated by Janin Ullmann . A painting by Harlad Duwe was discussed with the painting expert Betae Rhenisch and an excerpt from an old episode of Nordschau was shown in which Duwe was the subject of the program.
