Thomas Ayck

Thomas Ayck (* 1939 in Hamburg ; † 1988 ) was a German documentary filmmaker , author and journalist .

Life

Thomas Ayck studied after an apprenticeship as a shipping agent , the subjects German , English literature and art history at the universities of Hamburg and Basel . In 1983 Ayck received his doctorate.

Ayck had worked as an editor and documentary filmmaker in the main department of culture and science at NDR since 1969 . Numerous contributions by him were broadcast in the series Titles, Theses, Temperaments , which still exists today . His fame began with the documentary film Obscenity as Social Criticism? In 1971 Ayck took part - together with Siegfried Lenz and Uwe Herms - in the events of the Social Democratic Voters' Initiative North (WIN) on the occasion of the Schleswig-Holstein state elections, in which Jochen Steffen ran for the office of Prime Minister.

Thomas Ayck created intensive portraits of the writers Siegfried Lenz, Alberto Moravia , Peter Weiss , James Baldwin , Halldór Laxness and the visual artist Francis Bacon, among others . Thomas Ayck was married. His wife Bärbel Ayck worked as a teacher in Hamburg at the Max-Brauer-Schule. The couple remained childless.
