The kitchen radio is a German-language podcast in talk show format that has existed since spring 2005 . The name is derived from the originally most frequent place of conversation, a kitchen in the Berlin district of Prenzlauer Berg . In the meantime, broadcasting is often done from another location - as an external appointment.

concept

The four podcasters - the journalists Philip Banse ("Doc Phil"), Andreas Baum ("Uncle Andi"), Katja Bigalke ("Frau Katja") and Gerd Brendel ("Cindy") - usually interview a guest on a Tuesday evening Theme. The broadcast is often broadcast directly as a live stream. Initially there was only one audio stream, but now the website sometimes also offers a video stream . There is also a chat during the broadcast in the channel #kuechenradio on Freenode . It is possible to ask questions during the broadcast and to get in touch with Philip Banse, who is listening to the chat. The start of the broadcasts will be announced on Twitter . Sometimes the programs are also made public, i. H. recorded in front of an audience. The conversation will later be posted uncut on the Internet and available as a podcast.

history

The first podcast from kuechenradio.org

In 2006 the kitchen radio was nominated for the Grimme Online Award .

From January to May 2008 Cindy traveled by land to India and reported as a correspondent on the stages of this trip. Cindy also interviewed Manvendra Singh Gohil, among others .

In April 2010, five years after the first episode was published, it was announced that the team no longer wanted to work together on new editions because of conflicts over the further development of the podcast. But more episodes would be produced.

The sixth anniversary of the podcast was celebrated on April 27, 2011 with a live broadcast from the Soupanova pub in Berlin, in which “the complete and reconciled kitchen radio team” took part on stage. This makes the kitchen radio “one of the oldest German podcasts still alive”. Guests of the episode were the two twitterers MSPro and Bosch . So far 397 episodes (as of April 28, 2020) have been produced.

Kitchen radio member Philip Banse produces other podcasts in addition to the kitchen radio. They have been combined to form the kuechenstud.io portal , of which the kitchen radio is a part. Other podcasts in this portal are:

  • My friend the tree , in which Andreas Baum and Andrea Frey talk about fiction literature, which they have mostly read; also
  • since March 2016 the State of the Union by Philip Banse and Ulf Buermeyer ; as a rule, current political events are summarized and assessed weekly.
  • Meanwhile rarely operated or inactive formats on the portal are the media of radio , studienwahl.tv , the data show about data journalism and the Federal Radio .
