Ulf Buermeyer (* 1976 in Osnabrück ) is a German lawyer and has been a judge at the Berlin Regional Court since 2008 . Buermeyer became known for his commitment to fundamental rights , initially in connection with network politics and since 2016 as chairman of the Society for Freedom Rights .

Live and act

Buermeyer grew up in Bissendorf and graduated from the Graf-Stauffenberg-Gymnasium in Osnabrück in 1994 . He then studied law and psychology at the University of Osnabrück as well as law, Egyptology and political science in Leipzig and Rennes on a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation until 2002 . He passed the first state examination in Leipzig in 2002. After internship with Gerhard Strate , at the Federal Ministry of Justice and the Federal Constitutional Court , Buermeyer passed the second state examination with a focus on European law in Berlin in 2006 .

In 2007 Buermeyer became a judge at the Tiergarten District Court . In the same year he was seconded to the Federal Constitutional Court and worked as a research assistant for Winfried Hassemer and Andreas Voßkuhle . Buermeyer was then a judge at the Berlin Regional Court from 2008 before he was seconded to the Senate Department for Justice of the State of Berlin in 2009 to draft a data protection law for the penal system . In September 2010 Buermeyer was appointed judge for life at the Berlin Regional Court . From August 2013 to May 2014, he earned a Master of Laws from Columbia University in New York City . He then returned to the Berlin district court and has been a judge in a jury chamber there ever since . 2015 Buermeyer was at the University of Frankfurt am Main with one of Matthias Jahn supervised work to informational self-determination doctorate . Since 2017 he has been seconded to the Constitutional Court of the State of Berlin as a research assistant .

Buermeyer has already been invited as an expert at hearings of parliamentary bodies, including in the Interior Committee of the Bundestag (March 2017 for the restructuring of the Federal Criminal Police Office Act ) and in the Legal Committee of the Bundestag (May 2018 for the introduction of state Trojans in the Code of Criminal Procedure , June 2018 for the introduction of the Network Enforcement Act ). In July of the same year he was portrayed by Cicero .

Buermeyer developed the radio cell query transparency system (FTS) presented in November 2018 for the Berlin Senate Department for Justice .

Ulf Buermeyer is co-founder and chairman of the Society for Freedom Rights and a Fellow of the Center for Internet and Human Rights at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt / Oder . He is also co-editor and editor of the criminal law journal HRRS and author at netzpolitik.org . Together with Philip Banse , he regularly produces the state of the nation podcast . From the end of 2016 to June 2019, Buermeyer was a member of the SPD .
