Tiergarten District Court

The Tiergarten District Court is one of a total of eleven district courts in the district of the Berlin Regional Court .

The district court Tiergarten to have subject matter jurisdiction belonging to the district courts of the criminal judicial district of Berlin concentrated. The departments for criminal matters housed in a building with the Berlin public prosecutor's office and the criminal chambers of the regional court thus form the so-called Criminal Court Moabit .

Until March 11, 2012, the Tiergarten District Court performed the tasks assigned to it under the Courts Constitution Act as a District Court for the former Berlin district of Tiergarten . As of March 12, 2012, the competences for civil matters and in matters of voluntary jurisdiction were assigned to the District Court Mitte . The Tiergarten District Court thus only has jurisdiction in criminal matters; in civil matters pending proceedings have to be concluded.

Film judgments

The Tiergarten District Court gained a certain prominence among film connoisseurs through a series of seizure orders under Section 131 StGB ( depictions of violence ), which affected some very well-known representatives of horror and splatter films , including Braindead (1992, confiscated in 2000) and Tanz der Teufel (1982, confiscated) 2000), Zombie (1978, seized 2000), and Saw 3D Completion (2010, seized 2012).

Court gallery

The just.art.gerichtsgalerie was founded in 2009 on the initiative of the judges Ulrike Fischer and Sabine Schumny with the support of the AG President Alois Wosnitzka. It is located on the premises of the Tiergarten District Court at Kirchstrasse 6.

The gallery is operated pro bono - for the benefit of the general public. When the pictures are sold, some of the exhibiting artists donate part of the proceeds for charitable purposes. The gallery was opened in February 2010 a. a. opened with works by Katharina Bach .
