Lichtenberg District Court

The Lichtenberg District Court is a district court in Berlin . It is responsible for the district court district of Berlin-Lichtenberg of the Berlin regional court , which includes the district of Lichtenberg and the district of Marzahn-Hellersdorf . In addition, the central land register archive is attached to the court, in which the old land register volumes and old base files for the former eastern part of Berlin are stored.

Responsibilities

Since criminal proceedings in Berlin are processed centrally in the Moabit Criminal Court (where the Tiergarten District Court and the criminal chambers of the Berlin Regional Court are based), the Lichtenberg District Court is a purely civil court for the approximately 550,000 residents living in the judicial district and the companies located there.

Mainly civil cases are heard in the court. It is also a supervisory court, land register court, probate court, foreclosure court (including the foreclosure of real estate) and bankruptcy court (for personal bankruptcies).

In addition to the main building at Roedeliusplatz 1 in Lichtenberg, the court also maintained the Hohenschönhausen branch at Wartenberger Strasse 40 in Neu-Hohenschönhausen from the beginning of 2009 to April 2012 , which was closed in April 2012 (move to the main building that was then converted). This branch was the formerly (1996-2008) independent district court of Hohenschönhausen, whose tasks were taken over by the district court of Lichtenberg.

The Lichtenberg District Court employs around 250 people, including 23 judges (as of 2019).

building

The old building of the Lichtenberg District Court, located on Roedeliusplatz (historically: Wagnerplatz), forms part of the overall layout of the square as a listed monument area.

The courthouse was designed by construction officials Paul Thoemer and Rudolf Mönnich at the Prussian Ministry of Public Works based on Westphalian baroque buildings. The building, designed for ten judicial departments, has a staircase in the Austrian Baroque style, which is decorated with allegorical figures. Behind the building is today's correctional facility for women , the old wing of which was built with the building of the district court at the beginning of the 20th century.
